A group of my friends - eight in all - did a ‘Come Dine With Me’ - type dinner party - themed. They all put so much effort and were very competitive. Now they want to do it again. One couple live in a house with steps to the door - and no downstairs loo.And tonight they are holding the first of the new nights. l had to get my daughter to step in for me the last time - l drove her and her father there and collected them - and it was 1.30am - and on a weekday when they finished. So tonight she will take my place again. Now l really do not want to do this comedinewithme again. l love having friends around for dinner as l love entertaining/cooking - its the theme part that is too much for me. l just wish we could all go out for a meal - somewhere rollator friendly.

So l am not going out!!!

Tonights theme is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. My OH has a bit pot belly - so l told him he could be the fat kid - Augustus Gloop. or a umpah lumpah. l shall stay at home like Charlies granny.

Hi Mrs J,

I couldn’t have put it better myself…I love my home and my garden and I’m very very happy, but you’re right…staying at home 24/7 was a learning curve and I too feel proud that I’ve adjusted to it…it’s not the life I’d imagined but what is the point of not making the most of it…even if that does mean learning to take pleasure in different things!

Take care of yourself,

Tell me to “get out more” at your peril. I sit in the ground floor flat I’ve bought and paid for. It is warm, comfortable and convenient. When I feel like it I go out. I’ve spent a lot of my life “out”. Most of it has been very enjoyable. But now I choose to stay in.

Stay cool, Steve.

We have some friends who want to take us on a cruise. All expenses paid as a treat. I am worried sick about it and don’t want to seem ungrateful but I am getting in a tizz about refusing their generous offer but I don’t know if I can do it. If anyone you know who is in a wheelchair and has been let me know.

I was talking to a lady yesterday who often goes on cruise holidays, she uses a wheelchair all the time although she can stand and walk a few paces. She loves them, one of the reasons is because her hubby can leave the ship for sightseeing when docked and she feels confident and is looked after by the ships staff. She could leave the ship with her hubby but prefers to stay on ship. To be honest there was a million and one conversations going on at the time she mentioned hoists but I don’t know if she was saying certain cabins have them or not. Do you know the company you would be sailing with? If so you could ring and ask.

Sounds a great idea Don, wide doorways and smooth floors wheelchair heaven.

Sorry Don, can’t offer any help on this one, but all the best whatever you decide.

Don, I think you should just be up-front and say it’s a very generous offer, and you feel bad refusing, but you can’t face it.

What about looking into some of those MS holidays? There are a few places in UK and I often notice a place in Spain advertising. They have hoists and everything.

You could say that the cruise would be too much but you would love a holiday in one of these places. They often advertise in MS Matters. Let me know if you don’t have a copy & I’ll post some details.

What lovely friends they are… and so lovely I’m sure they’ll understand.

i agree with Pat,if you dont think you will be able to face up to it,just gently explain you are not up to it and its making you ill just thinking about it,

i know for a fact i wouldnt be up to a cruise,i love the sound of it,but then again even if i was able i dont think i would ever go on one as i have this strange compulsion when looking down at water,i want to jump in lol…i would be scared to go near the edge, a bit like when i am on a bridge or a cliff,i always thought i was strange to think this, but i read somewhere its quite common…lol…

I’d look at the facilities the cruise line offer, like Jan says, I bet they offer pretty good facilities You just need to do what suits best, like Pat says, they’ll understand whatever you decide

Oh it’s so hard Don when people make such a kind and generous offer but you know you couldn’t manage it!

I would love to manage it…ferries and ships are the only place I can guarantee to sleep! I haven’t slept for more than two hours at a time for over thirty years except for a couple of occasions years ago when I went on the ferry from England to Spain!

Sending you a large packet of brave pills and hugs from Hereford, let us know how you get on, I’m sure they will understand.

Don’t feel bad about saying no Don, youv’e got to do whats right for you and Heather…Remember the famous words… “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter dont mind”

…you could still have a lovely holiday in this country, you don’t have to go on a cruise to have a lovely time with Heather.

I still haven’t said no, I am like the wimpy kid

Got another email listing available cabins tonight, they go a couple of times a year and think we would be ok.

Tomorrow’s the Day to put an end to this. Wish me luck.

Night folks I am wide awake and the bedside lamp has developed a hum. It only started humming when I bashed it to stop it rattling I can’t win here can I?

Been wet here in Margate

I have been on a cruise with a scooter. I don’t need hoist or anything but need wheels. It is a bit like a floating hotel, and was easy for me, as we sailed from uk. Lifts to each floor and generally easy to get around. There are things to see but if you are limited to what you can do, as they offer gyms and saunas and rock climbing etc etc, none of which I could do, but hubby and kids could so it was a good family break. They do have shows and films etc, so depends on what your into, you could even spend the kids inheritance in the casino!!

Be aware that there are loads of people on board and if your not comfortable going out as this whole thing started, you are stuck on board for duration, although everybody will try to help, you may not feel comfortable- somebody made good point earlier, in that your good lady will be able to get off and see things, knowing you are able to call someone if you need anything. Does she want to go?

but as people have said, there’s no shame in saying no. Good friends will hopefully understand.

take care xx

Glad you’ve done it Don, no more stress about having to do it. Real friends always understand.

Been a lovely day here weather wise, sat watching Steven Gerrard playing his last game at An field…sad day, but hopefully not the last we see of him.
