or am I the only one because it sure feels like it !
Hi I am hoping for some replies here to cheer me up
how do you feel about scooters? Ive had one for a few years and am permenantly on one it is my legs, the thought of being in a wheelchair was a def no-no for me as I am too independent and weak arms at times, my scooter is soo tiny it gets all about the house, its actually smaller than a wheelie I get asked about it all the time, I stripped it of its basket and armrests and covered it in decals so it looked ācoolā (wellā¦as cool as a scooter can look ha!) it handles gravel and woody paths too
I rarely see any other younger people about on scooters, do people think Im lazy? because i most certainly am not
my mind races 100 mph but my body does not : (
does anyone else āyoungishā 46 ishor so use a scooter? if so how do you feel? X
Well, Iām curious to know what make/model you have.
Iām kind of the opposite. I am using a chair when out and about and really think, No-No, to a scooter. I see them as āold fogey-ishā!!! I never thought of striping the arms and basket from one.
Do people think youāre lazy? Stuff them! Who cares!
Iām 46, ful time on crutches, even indoors. I have a 4 wheel walker and a very basis chair for if we go somewhere new and I know sooner or later Iām gonna have to give in and go for a decent chair or a scooter. I know itās wrong but truthfully I hate the idea so Iād rather no go out anywhere that I need to walk too far! I know Iām gonna have to get my head straight on this sooner or later
Same here Sonia. It will happen when youāre ready and youāll view it in a totally different light. x
Bought a four wheeled walker, use one crutch, bought a basic lightweight chair while I wait for one being provided to me by the Health Board (here in Ireland). I couldnāt believe it when I was told I was approved for Quickie Helium!!! I go back for a re-measure on Tuesday for one to be made to my required specifications.
I am beyond happy! Who would have thought Iād ever be feeling ecstatic to be getting a new chair eh?
I have an indoor chair, an outdoor chair and a Tramper. In the quest for freedom and independence Iāve covered all options. I havenāt looked back. As I wrote lately, we could see it as a rite of passage. For some it is reluctant. But I have a vision of armies of MS people rolling round the streets, taking over the world.
Hi Sonia Iām youngish to 65 I hated the idea off a scooter but eventually gave in and got one didnāt use it for first few weeks
But now itās great ,my one comes to bits and goes in car boot use when we go shopping I can spend the day going round the
Shops with the Mrs without becoming crippled and spasmie and go home quite fresh last week we went to ikea actualy went round twice because I left my stick leaning on something we,d been interested on .
Not all easy going though the town where we stay isnāt all that scoot friendly narrow pavements and steep hills to many wheelie
Bins left out , also its brilliant for walking the dogs if I take them to far the wee one cadges a lift home
Iāve been using one for the last 5 years since I was 45 and I love it! Yes, Iād prefer to walk but thatās not going to happen.
I use it every day to take the dog out. This means I meet other people taking their dogs out and we always stop for a chat.If I didnāt have it the days would be very long indeed!
Hi Iāve got an enigma wheelchair Iāve had it for a few years now it was second hand off eBay. Itās been brilliant once I got over the shock of being in a wheelchair I was absolutely fine, I found it much better than the manual chair I hated being pushed, but the biggest difference for me was getting Frazer my assistance dog from Canine partners. We have been partners for 2 years now, and when heās with me I forget that Iām disabled heās my best friend. Iāve just been assessed by the nhs and Iām getting a Salsa quickie. I canāt wait, my last power wheelchair is worn out, but Iāve had loads of adventures. Iām 51 so youngish Iāve been a wheelchair user for nearly 4 years, unfortunately I didnāt have a choice, my mobility went rapidly. Michelle and Frazer xx
Hi, I was 47 when I first bought a scooterā¦I borrowed them from Shopmobility to make sure I was happy with them first.
I loved it! I bought a Shoprider Sovereignā¦a middle sized buggy. Boy I loved it and clocked up some miles.
I bought it with my early retirement money and it was Ā£1, 895!!! I know, a hefty chunk of brass! You can pick them up now for over a grand lessā¦new ones too!!!
But I used it for a few years and was able to keep shopping, whereas beforehand, my legs would weaken and I`d have to go home sooner than I wantedā¦totally knackered!
Then it was time for wheelchairs, as i lost all mobility a few years later.
Enjoy your trips out on your scooters peeps!
I gave mine to a member of this forum and was glad it still had a few miles left in it.
Iām 47 and my dad gave me his mobility scooter when he became too weak to use it as I adopted his dog when he became ill as looking after both the dog and dad was a bit tough for mum. I have to take the dog out every day and this makes life so much easier. Iāve been using a stick or crutches for about five years now and everyone in the village is used to seeing me about or hobbling in my garden so they also see it as great for allowing me to get out every day.
I donāt care if anyone else has negative comments. Itās not me being pathetic or lazy, this is an aid to keep me mobile and able to get out regularly. If someoneās talking about me, they need to find a hobby as my life canāt possibly be stimulating to them. Besides if theyāre gossiping about me theyāre leaving some other poor soul alone. Ignore them!!
