life insurance

Hi everyone, i have no life insurance, yes I know very silly! I have been told by life sure this week that no one will cover me due to ppms if I had rrms there wouldn’t be a problem?

Its a chronic illness not a terminal illness so why? does anyone know a company who does cover.

Thanks

Hi Pauline, basically it’s because they consider it a risk… and insurance companies hate any risk. However there’s some good info on this site about insurance and the MSS even offer a policy: http://www.mssociety.org.uk/ms-support/practical-and-financial-help/insurance There are those plans that say they ‘ask no medical questions’ but I think most of them are for over 55 or 60 (and if I remember rightly you are younger). The thing about chronic or terminal illness is a bit of a minefield, so I apologise in advance if this causes anyone distress… but the truth is that very severe disability can of course lead to conditions that can be fatal. Severe bedsores can lead to blood poisening. Breathing food into the lungs can lead to fatal illnesses. These are conditions that can happen to anyone with severe disability, not just MS or PPMS. So although MS itself is NOT a terminal desease, IF it becomes very severe it can lead to these problems… AND please everyone remember that it is RARE for PPMS or any type of MS to become that severe! Just look at the people on here who have been diagnosed PPMS for many years (one on here over 40 years!) and still going strong and living independently AND enjoying life! But of course insurance companies will always look at ‘worst case scenario’ to judge the level of risk. Hope you’re doing well hon and hope that is useful. Pat xx

Hi Pauline

Yeah, good post from Pat. You just neet to shop around carefully but watch out for the annual increase in premium policies as they they have a bad track record in paying out to those with chronic illnesses. If I recall, I think Saga or NFU do offer PPMS sufferers options, but this could have changed as it was some time ago that I looked.

Cheers

Thanks Pat &CP xx

Hiya Pauline, is life insurance worth it, unless you die in the first couple of years, you pay the same amount of money every year for the rest of your life, which you hope will be decades from now, the sum your family receive after a year or two, of you paying in, will be the same sum they receive if you pay in for 30 or 40 years, if you save the same money in a bank, under the mattress, in a jar, no one but your family will get it, the whole money, Brian

Great idea Brian! Nina

Good point Brian, I guess I’m just panicking, it makes sense to put monies away into a seperate account which means i’ m not held to a set amount each month.

Thanks

Pauline
