I had hard news today

Hi gang, not easy news to write.

I went for a routine mammogram a couple of weeks ago and got called in for an assessment this morning.

I have breast cancer. They did an ultrasound but the doctor had already said they were fairly sure it was cancer. After ultrasound she said she was 95% sure. Then consultant came in and said yes it is cancer. Apparently there are a couple of things that mimic cancer so then I had a biopsy and it will be confirmed next Wednesday.

I have MS clinic (annual appointment) Wednesday morning and then cancer clinic at same hospital in afternoon. What a fun day that will be…

I’ll have surgery in the next couple of weeks but will NOT lose the breast. They’re not sure if I’ll need chemotherapy or radiotherapy yet.

It’s very small and caught early. Moral of the story ladies…do NOT neglect to go for your routine mammogram!!!

I’m ok. A bit in shock and very very tired. Biopsy area is sore. I’ll only be in hospital overnight & my sister will stay with Dickie (of course he was my top priority!)

Have been told to rest all weekend following biopsy…so I suppose that means cancelling all the plans I had …Paris…run a marathon…climb a mountain…you know all that stuff we get up to…(LOL…)

Love to all,

Pat xx

Hi. Pat

What horrible news for you to be confronted with, but it’s been caught early Pat, that is the good (?) part, and we are all going to send you positive vibes and wishes.

It goes to show that these mammograms are a necessity, so glad you went for one, and its bbeen picked up quick.

Do what they advise Pat, we are all here if you want to talk, rant whatever, but above all try not to stress yourself (so easy to say, so difficult to do) but you know why I mention it, life can be a b***h sometimes.

Thinking of you ((((hugs))))

Sorry for your news Pat. They must have caught early if they think there is a chance you wont need chemo. I did think though that they always give a little radiotherapgy just to be on the safe side. My mother in law sailed through her radiothetaphy at the age of 78.

Take Care

Thank you my lovelies.

Had a rotten night…to be expected I suppose…but also in afternoon I usually make a thermos flask of red bush tea (which is caffeine free) & stupidly yesterday I made it with Yorkshire tea…so was buzzing all night! Just what I needed!

You know when you are first dx with MS…it’s all you can think about…can’t concentrate on anything…keep thinking it’s a terrible mistake…keep wondering what caused it…was it my fault…etc etc etc? Well believe me it’s the same with a cancer dx!

My sister coming over today. Dickie slept right beside me on bed last night.

Lovely & sunny here in London.

Love to all thanks for your rock-solid support.

Hi Pat, my sister has been through this, and reconstructive surgery, she sailed through it all. I was shocked actually as she has never been ill in her life not really. She is 69. She has been free a few years, and really recovered fast. I know a few women now who have been through it, and fine. Its so much different now from what it used to be like as processes have changed and got a lot easier.

Good luck hunny, you survive MS your a tough cookie. xxxx

So very sorry to hear that Pat but there’s one thing about us is that we struggle every day but we’re still here, supporting each other because we’re tough!

It must be a frightening time for you and all I can offer you is support We live with the horrid MonSter anyway, we’re tough, so if anyone can beat it you can

Sending you love and stuff, I hope Dickie gives you extra cuddles too (animals always seem to know when you really need some comfort). Take as much comfort as you can, from wherever you find it.

Thanks for lovely responses.

You know what’s interesting, I’m not actually that scared. And I’m not in denial. I know I have cancer & it’s going to mean surgery and then probably a cause of chemo or radiotherapy…but I’m not freaked out by it.

And the reason is because MS has made me stronger. Before MS this cancer dx would most definitely have freaked me out. But I’ve now spent years living with a chronic illness & I know I can cope.

I posted on a breast cancer forum (don’t worry…I’m not leaving this my ‘home forum’!) & a woman answered who has breast cancer & SPMS. She said breast cancer sucks, but MS sucks more.

I am of course dreading the surgery, but I’ve had a couple of surgeries in the past & I’ll get through it ok.

So thank you MS. You have made me stronger. I am a warrior. I will survive.
