Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)

Hi folks

Does anyone use Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES), I have a friend who is finding it hard to walk; she went in to hospital to have some tests and caught Covid, I was worried as she’s 82 and suffers with bronchitis it seems that the first lot of vaccine has saved her as she is back home thank goodness, she’s always been active but recently her legs seem to have given up on her.

Just wondered if anyone else uses it…

FES is mainly used as a solution to drop foot, so if this is the cause of your friends difficulty, it’s worth pursuing. If the problem is with leg weakness in general, then a physio should be able to provide an assessment and suggest an exercise programme to help build muscle strength.

I hope your friend gets the help she needs.

sorry it’s taken so long to answer I no longer receive notification emails. Anyway thank you for your reply I will tell my friend. x

Hi
I used FES for a while. It was helpful but now my muscles have become too weak for it to be of use. I still have the kit which I think cost me £1500. Would your friend like it? It’s for the left leg.
