Is this finally hope for SPMS? Stage III results in!

Hiya all,

Is this a chance for hope for SPMS. My Neuro in March said “If there was something to offer you, I would”

Stage III results in now for that rare beast … an SPMS drug, Siponimod.

The Phase III EXPAND study, the largest randomised, controlled study in secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) to date, met its primary endpoint, compared with placebo, the Swiss drugmaker said.

“SPMS is a particularly disabling form of MS, and there is a need for effective treatment options to help delay disability progression in those living with the condition,” said Vasant Narasimhan, global head of drug development and chief medical Officer for Novartis.

It’s nice for a slice of hope now and again!

According to the comments at the bottom of the Barts blog entry, Prof G thinks 30 months before this is available on the NHS - which is a long time, but not a long time, if you know what I mean

Hopefully this means we’ve squeezed open the door and let in a chink of light - and hope - and more developments will follow
