Why take tecfidera with food?

Hi all,

I am several months into taking tecfidera now, and aside from the initial adjustment month I have (very luckily!) practically zero side effects. This includes when I have had to take it without food (forgot to take pills with lunch, etc). I was wondering… I was told to take it with food, to tolerate it better, but if I’m not having side effects, can I just take it without? Or is there something I’m not understanding, ie does the drug need the fats or proteins to bind with to work properly?

Thoughts welcome!

Hi Mossy

My understanding is just that it helps to avoid tummy trouble, rather than needing food for it to work properly. You could call your MS nurse or hospital pharmacist to get their advice though.
