Wheelchair Adapted Taxi

Hi,

My husband & I have booked a holiday to Costa Teguise, Lanzarote in September. I use a powered wheelchair and the travel agent has arranged airport assistance but they don’t arrange the hotel transfer using WAV taxis, I’ve got to do this myself. Does anyone know whether it’s best to book one when we arrive at the airport or pre book on line?

Any advice will be gratefully received x

Hi, we’ve been to Lanzarote on a number of occasions. I have only ever taken a manual wheelchair, and our tour operator always arranged transfer, mostly just by meeting us and taking the next taxi in the queue. It has on occasions been in an adapted taxi which they have pre booked for us, after problems getting one big enough to accommodate two adults, two suitcases and a wheelchair.

I would suggest for peace of mind and a timely departure from the airport to hotel it would be best to pre book.

i don’t have any details or recommendations though - sorry.

Hope you have a lovely holiday. Never been to Teguise, we like Playa Blanca.

Hi,

Thankyou for getting back to me with your advice & reassurance, I appreciate it. The tour operator does give the option of a WAV taxi transfer but it’s really expensive, twice the amount we paid them when we last went to Costa 2 years ago. Have looked at Lanzarote Taxis website & got a quote of the same amount we paid 2 years ago. I can pre book them online but can’t quite understand the form re pick up times.

Best Wishes

Sandie

If you have to transfer 2 ppl plus luggage, plus wheelchair, bite the bullet and pay it. Baets my experience in Rhodes when returning to the airport taxi driver turns up - and we had warned in advance, put the cases in, then gets a piece of rope out and says “we tie wheelchair on”…Theres me going "Noooooooo…

I mean you want to arrive at your hotel with chair intact or the hols are ruined.

Do your research before hand, look up WAV taxis online in Lanzarote. Look up mobility shops (worse case scenario). I believe in the best, prepare for the worst!!

Just a thought - depending on the quotes you are getting for the return journey in WAV taxi, it might be worth travelling with a manual wheelchair and hiring a powered wheelchair. There are a number of companies offering mobility equipment for hire. I’ve hired either scooter or powered wheelchair on most of my visits. I’ve always used the same company if you want the details.
