rant about groceries

I am just so angry and frustrated today! I don’t know how your online grocery ordering is working over there, but here in the States it’s still fairly new and full of issues.

I live too far away to get deliveries, but I could have them pull and bag everything and just drive to pick it up. Unfortunately, they fill so few orders every hour that you can’t schedule anything until 4-7 days from now, and 7 days is the maximum time period that they’ll schedule. If all the spots are taken, you just have to keep trying over and over. I only get groceries once a month, so lengthy delays are a problem for me.

For several months right after the virus reared its ugly head, I wasn’t able to place a pickup order at all and had to go to the store and shop myself. It’s gotten a little better since then, as long as I’m willing to wait nearly a week, but several times a month the site goes down so that you can’t order anything. Or they’ll say that they’re out of multiple items. One day when I was feeling perky, I walked into the store after getting my messed-up order, and all of the items they’d said were out of stock were sitting on the shelves right where they belonged. I don’t know if their computer stock was the problem or if I just had a lazy clerk.

I haven’t gotten groceries now since the beginning of December, so it’s a bit frustrating that I’ve tried for several days and still can’t place an order. Unfortunately, I discovered this afternoon that they took the payment out of my bank account anyway – TWICE – without actually accepting the order.

Son had a doctor’s appointment today, so I went along and asked him to stop at the store, because I did have more money in the bank. That’s when I learned that they took half the handicapped parking spaces and have them reserved now for pharmacy pickups! I had to walk halfway through the parking lot, in the snow and rain, to get a small handful of groceries, and I have no idea when they intend to refund my money. I’d stop dealing with them, but they have the lowest prices around and (usually) the best selection.
