has anyone gone for a pip assessment on their mobility scooter … I use mine mainly for shopping but at the mo I’m quite bad so will need to use it for my assessment next week . I hope I don’t lose points
hi fran i really hope you have had help from welfare rights, CAB or similar. really what you’ll be doing is giving a first hand example of how changable ms is! if you get points deducted you must put in a request for mandatory reconsideration asap. then if you havent had help already, now is definitely the time to get it. my welfare rights was amazing but i got reduced level for mobility. put in the request for mandatory reconsideration but they stuck to their earlier decision. i wrote to them to say that i disagreed with their decision. they wrote to tell me it would have to go to tribunal. my advisor was very positive but at the last minute the stress finally got to me and i couldn’t stop shaking. i rang her to say that i couldn’t go through with it. she told me that we had both put too much work into it and asked if i’d mind if she attended on my behalf. i gave consent and she went and won!!

It will help to show the level of disability you have.
Just make sure that you don’t walk more than 20 metres when you get off the scooter.
That’s the main criteria for mobility.

I used my scooter to enter both the assessment building and the interrogation suite. It did me no harm; I was not asked to demonstrate my mobility by the assessor.
Take a look at the following website. There is plenty of information about the descriptors. Well worth a thorough read before your assessment.
In addition to what has been said, consider the following for each descriptor. This is taken from the PIP points system link on the left hand side menu.
‘Reliably, in a timely fashion, repeatedly and safely
An individual must be able to complete an activity descriptor reliably, in a timely fashion, repeatedly and safely; and where indicated, using aids and appliances or with support from another person (or, for activity 10, a support dog). Otherwise they should be considered unable to complete the activity described at that level.’
Therefore, if you were able to walk over 20 metres once during the day but you were unable to repeat it or considered yourself to be unsafe when walking, then you qualify for the points. The 20 metre rule is not binary.

also just because you have explained at length why certain things are wrong when you write your answer to question 1, you have to give the full explanation for each question.
don’t give up, pursue them for your rightful benefit.
