Refused entry into shops outside designated hours

Hello everyone,

Other half was with me last Friday and wanted to go to shopping, showed his blue badge and he had his walking stick, he was turned away by the security guard in front of a very big queue but was told go and wait in the queue, if its more than ten minutes the guard will pull you out. OH cannot stand for ten minutes. (the queue was right round the block so how could he see us). Now this is the tricky bit. I cannot drive at all yet OH has his mobility car. I have been on my own before and waited like everyone else in the queue, but this time he wanted to come in and got refused. I cannot manage a large shop on my own and we have no other family available that can help get shopping. The nature of ms is that MS somedays dictates your life and you cannot always make the allocated times. It works out 3 hours a week. One hour on a monday wed and friday. 9am to 10am.

We don,t know how to order food shopping online (how do you prove you are disabled) and we like to get to see what we are buying anyway. Any advice. Some one said get a GPs letter. More importantly no letter was received to ask to shield, Partner

is RRMS and JC positive. there is some confusion around tysabiri being an immune suppressent drug or modyifying drug. We were always told that tysabiri acts as a immune suppressent as it reduces the amount of relapses by actually suppressing the immune system yet its classed as a modyifying drug. Can anyone explain if he should have had a letter, particularly as he is JC positive. Any advice on how to get round this. Many thanks. from Dipsy

Hi, it must have been so upsetting to stand in the queue and be at the mercy of an unhelpful Jobsworth!

I think your hubby`s GP would be the best person to ask about shielding.

Good luck

my son has type 1 diabetes and i regularly get phone calls for him from the local “shielding service”.

they want to know if he is eating well.

a lot of online supermarkets want proof that you are vulnerable to covid.

this covid b… has a lot to answer for!

Hi Dips,

Did you get a GPs letter to help with access to the supermarket / shop ? The other thing you could do, is talk to the shop manager about the behaviour of the security guard when you go by yourself, explaining what happened - it sounds like the manager might need to just have a quiet word with the security officer so the next time you come with your OH, you’ll hopefully be able to avoid the big queue.

Sorry can’t answer the med Q as my wife had PPMS rather than RRMS, so not a specialist on that one !

Best,

Matt
