Becoming my wifes fulltime carer and giving up my job.

Hi , My wife has had m.s for 15 years now and has been diagnosed with secondary progressive for the last 4 years. It’s now getting to the point where she needs 24 hour care and I need to give up my job to take care of her full time . I need to find out how much we will be entitled to and what benefits we could get to make this happen I’ve been on the government website but it’s hard to use . Is anyone in the same position that can give me advise please?

Hello Bigmart121, the best piece of advice I can give you, which is what my wife and I did when she had to pack up work, is to get an appointment with your local Citizens Advice Bureau. They’ll be able to run through exactly what you’re entitled to.

Good luck.

Hello…sorry to hear how much worse your wife`s MS is.

We were in the same situation 20 years back. My hubby had taken early retirement a year before and was going to re train…but in that time, I became ill and so his new job was looking after me!

9 years ago, it was all getting to much so we got carers in to give him a break. Social services and Direct Payments helped out.

Take it steady now.
