This week

Hi everyone

Hope you are all doing ok, and that today is being kind to you.

I must admit I have not been looking forward to this week, as I have two appointments at the eye Hospital, first one was today and second one on Thursday, but I am such a woos when it comes to my eyes.

Anyway, todays tests went well, no eye drops, that happens Thursday. These tests are all cos my Optician keeps on about the pressure in my eyes, so I will have it all done…reluctantly.

I just hate anything to do with my eyes, I think it stems back to being 3 and having to go twice yearly for the horrible eye drops that alters your vision.

I know compared to lots of people who have eye problems, that mine is a small problem, but roll on Friday, it will all be done.

Sorry to moan, take care.

Hope all goes well.

Hi Pam, I hate anything to do with the eyes too… though with no reason. I even hate that machine that blows air in your eyes… forget what it’s called or what it’s for… but hate it. Hope it all goes ok and that they can sort the problems out. This MS-life is just one thing after another… Pat xx

Thanks Don and Pat, will let you know.

Pat, I dont know what it is called when the air blows into your eyes, but it is to check the pressure at the back of the eye, checking for glaucoma. It is that what my Optician has sent me to the specialist for, saying my pressure is too high. I have high blood pressure anyway, so perhaps its all connected.

Pam I have no idea… but surely if they were checking for glaucoma they’d say so. Yes perhaps connected to blood pressure… apparently they can find all sort of problems from looking in the eyes… from brain tumors to cholesteral… so maybe blood pressure as well? Yes let us know. Pat xx

Btw… if it was brain tumour they would have whisked you off to hospital for MRI… don’t want to worry you with thoughtless words. Pat xx

I also hate anything to do with eyes. Apparently my MS started with retrobulbar neuritis in 1978. It was frightening but I did not get my MS dx until 1994. My daughter lives in Canada and of course they have medical insurance there. She went for her regular eye check and without any instigation they told her she did not have MS. So I think they can find out all sorts from a simple eye test. Best wishes for Thursday - I hope things are ok for you. Jackie xx

Pam I’ll be thinking of you, I hate anyone messing with my eyes too, fortunately my only experiences are with the optician who doesn’t do anything invasive. My daughter’s having problems with hers though and I feel so sorry for her constantly having drops and people fiddling.

Jackie they can get a good idea if you have MS by your eye tests, my optician suspected it before I was diagnosed. I was battling to read, blurred and double vision and he said that my eyes are okay but signals aren’t being interpreted by my brain which is typical with ms. He gave me varifocals with prisms in every layer to try and train my eyes to work together giving my brain more chance to pick up what I’m seeing. My Neuro was very impressed as most opticians don’t check well enough and use their initiative.

It’s a really funny illness isn’t it? I’m having a really tough time at the moment, my legs and hips are so painful, even the Oramorph isn’t controlling it very well. But hey ho, there’s always next week!!

Take care and good luck Pam.

Cath xx

Thanks Cath, hope you pain eases for you, this ms marlarkey is a right pain in the b++ for all of us.

Take care

No worries Pat.

Hi Jackie

It seems that none of us like anyone mmessing with our eyes, makes me feel better I thought it was just me being a right wimp.

Take care

Pam x

I’m very short-sighted and I have astigmatism so I wear glasses from when I get up in the morning to when I go to bed. This doesn’t bother me, I’ve been wearing glasses day every day for about 30 years. People have asked why don’t I have laser surgery but the thought makes me cringe.

I can cope with putting contact lenses in and I can cope with the puff of air pressure test at the optician, but the thought of anyone having lasers near my eyes - no, thank you very much!

Can’t blame you Mitzi, that suggestion would have me heading for the hills xx

Hi Mitzi

Snap! I have astignatism and have worn glasses for nigh on 60 years, but could not get on with contacts, if I got them in the wrong place, I couldn’t see to get them back out lol

My glasses are the first thing I reach for mornings and last thing to take off at night, but as for laser treatment…no way.

Take care

Eye stuff is sooooo scary.

I had Lasik about 12 years ago, terrifying in every way… they even gave me valium and still had to peel my fists off of my chest before they started. Not actually painful even, just terrifying BUT best result ever.

Hope your appointments go OK

Sonia x

Sonia you’re very brave. I’ve heard so many good reports about laser surgery but I think even if I was eligible I’d stick to my specs, I’m a definite wimp. I didn’t even like my eye lashes tinted, the effect was good but I was like you, a frozen statue of fear so I give it a miss now.

Cath xx

Good luck for Friday Pam! You’re very brave Sonia, I don’t think I could do that! Nina x

Thanks Sonia, Cath and Nina, everyone’s comments are very reassuring, and has made me feel calmer, just knowing other people understand means so much.

Sonia, I take my hat off to you, you are so brave, well done you.

Hi everyone,

Well I have been and had all the tests done, and he seemed quite happy with everything, si I am too, should get some report later.

I just wanted to say, thank you all so much for your lovely helpful comments, making me feel that I was nit the only one to be frightened of having my eyes messed with, somehow made me feel quite brave.

This forum is great, you have no idea how you all reassured me to have it done. Have a go8d day everyone, sorry for any typos, my eyes arre blurred.

Glad the tests went well Pam… What would we do without each other? I was telling the speech therapist about how helpful this forum is for me… and how I couldn’t manage without it. He said he had never thought about it before and will advise other clients to find a forum for their particular condition. Together we are strong. Pat xx
