Hi All,

I am looking for some information please.

I have ppms (mild) but I take amitriptyline 50 mg over a couple of years now. I never notices any side effects.

I had a kidney infection in December got antibotic but I still have pain in both sides and I seem to br retaining fluid( where kidneys are) .I went to GP last Thursday ( for free smear test) I just mention to her regarding pain. She checked my urine and there was blood showing.Any way I have to go for a ultra scan , she thinks I have kidney stones. But I am wondering if anyone else had swelling of hands, feet and legs as a side effect of Amitriptyline or ms related.My ultra scan is on early April. I am worried about the swelling of my limbs and wondering if this could be a symptom of ms as I am also having unusually symptom like eyes stinging and bad headaches.Thank you in Advance.Dx

Hi, did the doc say if your problem was caused by amitriptyline?

I`ve been on that for 13 years. The only side effect I get is a dry mouth.

Havent heard anyone say it causes swelling.

Does it mention it on the leaflet?

Have you got an MS nurse? If so, ask about it, eh?

Hi Dee. Just asked my doctor son and he says that is is more likely that the swelling is from problem with the kidneys rather than Amitriptyline. I take 50mg of Amitriptyline and have never had swelling.

Thanks for reply.

Pollx I read somewhere that Amitriptyline had this as a side effect I must have rea it wrong.

Does this mean my ms is getting worse or changing in someway. I just dont’ know what to think but i am afraid and worried.Thank you both for your replies. I let you know what scan say. Hopefully all be okay.
